Thanks to a very generous grant from the Finland Embassy, New Delhi, work is now starting on the construction of new accommodation for the monks. (Please see our slideshow for the latest pictures of the hostel construction). The grant, for Rs. 43,70,000, was received through the Finland Embassy's Councillor Dr. Anne Ahonen, and it will cover the whole cost of the project. In addition, the monastery has received Rs. 50,000 for the purchase of a computer with back-up UPS and printer.

On 29th May 2004 the monks carried out prayers to bless the site of the new monastic building.

Following the blessing of the site, on 6th June work began on levelling the site and excavating the foundations and column pits. A JCB and two tractors are being used for this, and the work will take almost four days to complete.

The construction work is being carried out by local contractor Mr. Ratan Shanbag of Mundgod. All work will be carried out in compliance with the labour law, with all workers being insured.
